Origins

David Mitchell was born on 8 September 1849 in Auchtermuchty, Fife, Scotland. His parents were Archibald Mitchell and Magdalene Bennet.[1]

Marriage and Children

David Mitchell married Mary Christie on 5 May 1871 in Ladybank, Collessie, Fife.[2] David's occupation is listed as Linen Weaver and Mary works in a linen factory. They had at least eleven children.

Census

1851 Scotland Census: David Mitchell, age 1, is enumerated in the household of his parents, Archibald and Magdalene Mitchell, at Backwynd in Auchtermuchty, Fife.[3] His father works as a Hand Loom Weaver. Also in the household are 3 siblings: Isabell, age 10; Andrew, age 7; Euphemia, age 5.

1861 Scotland Census: David Mitchell, age 11, is enumerated in the household of his parents, Archibald and Magdalene Mitchell, at Jerorsland Fews in Auchtermuchty, Fife.[4] He works as a Linen Weaver. Also in the household are five siblings: Isabella, age 21; Euphemia, age 15; Magdalene, age 8; Joanne (mistranscribed "Johan"), age 4; Margaret, age 2.

1871 Scotland Census: David Mitchell, age 21, is enumerated in the household of his parents, Archibald and Magdalene Mitchell, at Main Street Northside in Falkland, Fife.[5] He works as a Linen Weaver. Also in the household are five siblings: Euphemia, age 25; Magdalene, age 18; Joanne, age 14; Margaret, age 13; Archibald, age 8; and one niece: Mardelle (?), age 4 months.

1881 Scotland Census: David Mitchell, age 31, is enumerated at Gladstone Place in Collessie, Fife.[6] His occupation is Railway Labourer. Also in the household are his wife, Mary, and three sons: David, age 11; Andrew, age 5; Angus, age 3.

1891 Scotland Census: David Mitchell, age 40, is enumerated at 3 Gas Work Place in Kirkcaldy and Abbotshall, Fife.[7] His occupation is listed as "Fireman & Linen Factory". Also in the household are his wife, Mary, and 6 children: Andrew, age 15; Angus, age 13;, Alexander Y., age 7; Mary, age 4; Isabella, age 2; Agnes, age 11 months.

1901 Scotland Census: David Mitchell, age 51, is enumerated at Sands Road Gas Coy Houses in Kirkaldy and Abbotshall, Fife, Scotland.[8] He works as an Engine Man in a linen factory. Also in the household are his wife, Mary, and five children: Andrew, age 25; Angus, age 23; Mary, age 14; Isabella, age 12; John, age 8.

Death

David Mitchell died in 1915.[9]
