Joined CSA 15 Sep 1861, Co D, 49th VA Inf. Reg. Was a store clerk in Lovington, VA prior to enlisting. Was captured by the Union Army 30 May 1864, and held in Ft. Delaware POW camp on Pea Patch Island in Delaware River. Became ill with congestion of lungs by Spring 1865. He wanted to return to wife and daughter whom he had relocated from VA to ME for safety. He took the Oath of Allegience so he could return to his family. Arrived in Bangor, ME and stayed at a Bangor Hotel on 15 May 1865 and died the next day. His wife buried him in the cemetery on Allen Rd, Dedham, Penobscot, ME.
