Biography

Elizabeth Caroline "Bettie" Mitchell, born in 1861 in Bibb Co, AL, was the daughter of Nancy Minerva Barnes Mitchell and Henry Avery.

Minerva Barnes Mitchell had been married to John William Mitchell, but he passed away in 1858, three years before Bettie's birth. His estate records allude to another child or children born subsequent to his death by specifying that only the three oldest children were beneficiaries of his estate.

Henry Avery was determined to be the father of Bettie Mitchell through mapping numerous DNA matches from Ancestry.com, 23andMe, FTDNA and GEDmatch.com to his direct descendants as well as to his Cutts, Avera/Avery and Ingram ancestors in Hale and Bibb Co, AL and back to Johnston County, NC.

In 1859 Bettie married Isaac Taylor Moore with whom she had nine children. She died in 1929 and is buried at Mt Ivah Cemetery in North Perry Co, AL.
