James was born about 1835. He is the son of Jabez Mitchell and Nelly Lynch.
Although his middle initial is listed as "L" in 1850 census, Family Search gives a specific middle name "Thomas"
James Thomas Mitchell served in the 2nd Virginia Infantry, C.S.A. during the American Civil War.
