Biography

Lockey Margaret Mitchell was born on October 20, 1838,^[1] in Anderson, Tennessee. She was the daughter of Charles Mitchell and Nancy McPherrin. She was the 8th child of 10 children. At age 11 she was in her parent's home, along with her siblings, Elizagety-23, John017, William-15, Mary-14, Samul-8, and Nancy E age 5, in Anderson, Tennessee .^[2]

At age 18, She married William Lewis Carden on September 11, 1857,^[3] in Hamilton, Tennessee. They had eight children.

Their Married life was spent on the Carden Homestead of Robert Franklin And wife Rachel Mitchell-Carden. After their marriage they stayed on the place to take care of the large crops of apples and to care for his parents. He probably added some land to the original homestead. William lewis and wife Locky raised their family of eight children there.

In 1860, William and Lockie were on their farm with their first born child, 10 month old, Caldonia.^[4]

William served in the Civil War on the Confederate side, in the Arkansas 15th Regiment, Arkansas infantry, (Northwest), company ,F, as a Private.^[5]

Still on the home place by 1880, Cynthia-20, Marilda-19, Magnolia-11, John-8, and William L-2 had been born, and were in the home.^[6]

She died on October 1, 1890, in Pea Ridge, Arkansas, at the age of 51, and was buried in Benton, Arkansas, in the Carden family Cemetery.^[1]
