George was born about 1813. George's mother's name stated as Elizabeth Mitchell, spinster. His father may be forever unknown. He was listed as a potter on each known census. George remarried after his first wife Sarah died in the 1840s, second wife named Maria from Wolstanton, maiden name unknown and marriage record yet to be found. George was a potter and mold maker. By 1861 he was living in Shelton.
Research Notes: George had a son Stephen, and if certain assumptions are correct, also had a maternal uncle by that name. The 1841 census rounded ages down by up to 4 yrs, so possible birth dates for a 25 year old were 1812-1816. Some people also minimized their ages on this census, perhaps to optimize employment opportunities. There is a Cheshire civil record of a marriage to Maria Massey or Maria Dakin in 1845 in Congleton, 16 kilometres from Burslem, which may prove to be this George:<https://www.findmypast.co.uk/transcript?id=BMD%2FM%2F1845%2F4%2FAZ%2F000469%2F157>
