Disputed parents: several online trees claim that Morris's parents were John Mitchell and Sarah Mahurin. There is no primary record to support these parents, and in fact it seems very unlikely given that 1) This would make Morris born 11 months after another of John and Sarah's children, interrupting the otherwise typical spacing of 2-3 years per child, and 2) Morris was reportedly born in Maryland at a time when John and Sarah lived in New Jersey. John and Sarah have therefore been detached until a reliable source is furnished identifying them as his parents.
Rev. Morris Mitchell was born about 1762. He died in Jan 1848.
He married Elizabeth Hoosang 1781 in Washington County, Pennsylvania (daughter of Elizabeth and Jacob Hoosang); born April 15, 1766; died September 4, 1858, Polk County, Missouri; burial in Mitchell Campground Cemetery, Polk County, Missouri.
Morris became a Methodist Episcopal minister as did three of his sons: John, James and Jesse. This calling was followed by a remarkable number of grandsons, great-grandsons, and men who married into the family.
By 1786 Morris and Elizabeth Mitchell had migrated from Washington County, Pennsylvania to Greene County (now Knox County), Tennessee. Morris was a Methodist minister for many years. He and wife Elizabeth moved to Polk County, MO in 1835. He was a Revolutionary War soldier and has a DAR number. Family records show the Cemetery is in Bolivar, Polk Co, MO.

Morris joined the militia in Washington, Co. PA in 1781, which could be consistent with a move from Northern Maryland. But it is unlikely he was born in Morristown, so is highly unlikely he was a child of John and Sarah. John and Sarah recorded baptisms for nine children at the Morristown Presbyterian Church, and none was named Morris (see the link on John Mitchell's profile).
I proposed disconnecting these parents from Morris. Objections?
