R Mitchell was born in Arkansas.

R V Mitchell was born on July 31, 1923 in Lucas, Scott County, Arkansas.^[1] His father was John Herman Mitchell and his mother was Reva Vera Doss.^[2]

Not sure if the "R V" is initials or just his first name, all records simply list him as "R V Mitchell". In 1930, R V lived in Tomlinson, Logan County, Arkansas.^[2]

In 1935, he lived in Barber, Logan County, Arkansas, and in 1940, he lived in Mansfield, Scott County, Arkansas. ^[3] At age 18, he stood 5 feet and 10 inches tall, weighed about 160 pounds, and had a dark brown complexion, with black hair and brown eyes.^[1]

R V married Blanche Virginia Yeakley on December 22, 1944 in Sebastian County, Arkansas.^[4][5]

In 1945 and 1946, he attended college at the University of Central Arkansas in Conway, Faulkner County, Arkansas. He was a member of the Sigma Tau Gamma fraternity.^[6][7]
