Tho[ma]s Mitchell appears in the 1850 United States Federal Census as a 58-year-old farmer living with his wife, Margaret, and seven children, three sons and four daughters. Thomas has only $60 in real property, but, interestingly, each of his children has $140 in real property, including the youngest, a six-year-old girl. The two oldest sons are said to be farmer and to have married within the year, but their wives do not appear in the household.
