Biography
- Matthew Mitchell was born on December 5, 1806 in Pennsylvania to William and Jane (Kirkpatrick) Mitchell. He married Jane Stevenson on September 2, 1840 in Martinsburg, Ohio. They were the parents of William Ritchie (1841-1925), John Stephenson (1843-1908), Nancy Ann (1845-1922), Hugh Lee (1848-1882), Mathew Riley (1850-1934), David Findley (1852-1927), Mary Ellen (1854-1938), Cornelia Jane (1856-1937), and Theophilus Kirkpatrick (1858-1928). He died on January 11, 1893 at the age of 86 in Monmouth, Illinois and was buried in Monmouth City Cemetery in Monmouth, Illinois.
