Biography

James Mitchel baptized 01 Mar 1816 child of Andrew Mitchel and Mady Ramsy^[1]

James Mitchell married Betsy Horn 19 Aug 1837 in Auchtermuchty, Fife. ^[2] Birth of son David in 1855 says they were married in 1837 in Abdie.^[3]

They lived on the High St. of Auchtermuchty in 1851. James was a 34 year old hand loom weaver and Betsy was 35. The couple now had several children - Andrew 12, John 10, Magdaline 7, and Jane 7 mos. Andrew was already an apprentice hand loom weaver. All were born in Auchtermuchty. ^[9]

By 1861 James was living with Betsy at Crosshills Kys Rd. in Auchtermuchty. James was a 43 year old linen weaver and Betsy was keeping house. The children living with them were - John 20, Magdaline 17, Jane 10, and new child, Agnes 3. John and Magdaline were both weavers, the former in linen, the latter in cotton. ^[10]

He passed away in 1887 in St. Andrew's Parish, Dundee. ^[11]
