Biography

Notables Project
Jacob Mitchell is Notable.

Jacob Mitchell, son of Jacob and Susanna (Pope) Mitchell, was born in Bridgewater, Massachusetts about 1670. He along with two of his siblings were raised by their uncle Edward Mitchell after the death of their parents.[1]

Marriages

Jacob married first Deliverance Kingman, in 1696, during a triple wedding of himself, along with his brother Thomas and sister Mary, who married three children of John and Elizabeth Kingman.[2] Jacob married second on November 18, 1701, Rebecca Cushman, daughter of Reverend Isaac and Rebecca Cushman.[1][3] (In some online genealogies, Rebecca Cushman is shown as the daughter of Isaac Cushman and Rebecca Ricard; her mother's name has been proven to be Rebecca Harlow, and numerous sources support that on Rebecca (Harlow) Cushman's profile.)

Jacob Mitchell died December 21, 1744, at age 73,[4][5] and is buried at North Yarmouth, Maine.[6]

Deeds, Land, Communities

Plans were made in Boston for the resettlement of the town of North Yarmouth, (now Maine), which had been destroyed during the Indian Wars. Jacob was appointed to a subcommittee to manage the prudentials of this town. He sold his property in Plymouth and removed to Maine. The new settlers drew lots for homesteads on 16 May 1727. Jacob and Rebecca came to North Yarmouth sometime after 1727.[5] Their son, Seth, came first, followed by his parents and later by his half-brother, Jacob, son of Deliverance.

Jacob was one of the founders of the First Church of North Yarmouth and became a deacon;[5] other Mitchells of this line were deacons of the same church for several generations. He was elected a Selectman for the first town meeting in 1733 and held that position until his death. Jacob and his sons were extensive land owners.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Jacob by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Jacob:

S (Hill) Willson - Thank you for the work you are doing. I also am a direct ancestor. Can't wait to see final form!

Hello cousin. I'm researching other early Massachusetts / Maine families and in doing so I'd like to update this direct ancestor. No fact based data changes just a format / style change for readability and easier proofing by others. I appreciate your building this profile. Sincerely, Leigh Anne
What formatting/style changes are you planning to make?

Example profile: John Haskell as with many other profile bio's I've built this style format is approved by the PGM project, it seems to be the easiest for people to review and compare with existing data they already possess, it's neat, orderly and very professional looking.  :-)

P.S., S: The timeline appears to have been copied directly from Ancestry. com and it's difficult to follow, particularly with the children. If you object to my conform attempts perhaps you will let me make a simple listing of the children. This profile is a direct ancestor; I'm not straying from my family line.

Thanks for your offer, Leigh Anne. Working on Jacob and his wife's profiles is on my to-do list, so I'll take care of them both.
