She was born in South Burlington on Jan. 11, 1918 to William and Mabel Mills Rounds. In 1942, she married John F. Mitiguy, who predeceased her in 1970. In 1979 she married W. Walter McCaffrey, who passed away in 1986. She was also predeceased by three daughters, Patricia Ann Mitiguy in 1954, Anne Louise Mitiguy in 1971, and Mary Jeanne Alexander in 2010. She was also predeceased by two grandchildren in 1971, Anne Marie Alexander and John Alexander. Thelma was a graduate of Mount St. Mary Academy. She belonged to the Burlington Country Club for many years, a former member of Catholic Daughters of America and Athena Club. Thelma did volunteer work for the American Red Cross Blood Bank, Grey Ladies at the former DeGoesbriand Hospital, and for St. Anne's Society. She was a long time member of St. Anthony's Parish. She leaves two sons, Michael J. Mitiguy and wife, Judi, of Burlington, and John D. Mitiguy of Colchester; 13 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a sister, Barbara G. Rounds, of Burlington. The family would like to thank Patrice Thabault and her wonderful staff at Home Instead for the excellent care provided to Thelma over the last few months. We would also like to thank all the medical staff at Fletcher Allen, in particular the Baird 4 unit, for their compassionate care of our mother in her final days. At her request, there will be no visiting hours and services will be private at the convenience of the family.
