Biography

John Collins Mix was born July 23, 1849. He was the son of Anson and Lodema (Stevens) Mix of Candor, Tioga County, New York. [1] In 1870, he was in the household of his grandparents, Levi and Elizabeth Stevens. [2]

He married Henrietta Smith about 1873. [3] In 1875, they were farming in Candor, New York. His mother Lodema and brother Morgan were in his household. [4] John and Henrietta had three children: Arthur, Cora, and Lewis.

John Mix died August 24, 1910. He is buried in Smith Valley Cemetery in Willseyville, Candor, Tioga County, New York. [5]

The death of John Mix occurred at his home two miles north of this place on Wednesday, Aug. 24th. He was 62 years old. He had suffered for a long time with heart trouble, and later dropsy. He leaves besides his wife, two sons, Arthur and Lewis, who reside in this vicinity and one daughter, Mrs. William Haynes of Binghamton. The funeral was held on Friday afternoon at the home. The Rev. B. F. Tobey officiated. Interment was in the Willseyville Cemetery. – Ithaca Daily News, Wednesday Evening, August 31, 1910.
