Biography

ELIZABETH
(NOTE per 1. Name 2. Identity)
  1. Taking together - early references to her from her "Holden" descendants along with later mentions by members of the "Darby" Family consistently identity her without a maiden name. Members of the Danby/Darby Family acknowledge her variously ie.: 'Elizabeth, the former wife of William Holden....or: as the former 'Mrs. Elizabeth Holden......' Likewise, printed references from the Holden perspective acknowledge her second marriage to John Darby. And as for a maiden or 'other' name: "Lawrence", the only connection I've been able to ascribe any plausible merit to is with respect to the Lawrence Family, the maternal line of William Holden Sr, HOWEVER, I've found no specific references to an 'Elizabeth' matching the vitals and history of 'this' Elizabeth. So, if she is being recalled as part of Hannah Lawrence's family....it would seem her identity would be specified among that well-documented Founding American Family...
  2. The Historical Record (to date) appears to identify this woman according to which husband (or both) is emphasized. This was not uncommon (yet not exclusively) practice and custom that often tended toward a woman's marital identity as co-progenitor of a specific line. Lack of knowledge, disinterest, or intentional vested effort to minimize connection with a maternal Family/individual of said Family who had transgressed social norms so to fall from all favor; may or may not have been instigating factors. Whatever be the issue of this subject...the only reasonable conclusion is to acknowledge the wife of John Darby "the former Mrs. William Holden", or "Elizabeth" relict of William Holden has not been identified with any Family-of-Origin, or even so suggested that I could find, and so (confusions or misidentifications with Holden or Lawrence Families, and taken into consideration: possible additional misidentifications with Elizabeth Holden b. 1725 d. 1816 m 1747 Moses Wheeler [daughter of William Holden and Elizabeth] aside) should be known as: "ELIZABETH", wife of WILLIAM HOLDEN and/or "ELIZABETH" wife of JOHN DARBY...with marital Family Name(s) as would be appropriate but for correct practice she remains: ELIZABETH (Maiden-Name-Unknown) Lastly, queried also was one reference to Elizabeth by the name "Elizabeth Nurse" which appears to be first mentioned by a descendant on the Find A Grave Record 21600852 " To my 6th Great Grandmother, Elizabeth Nurse ~ Daby, your family has multiplied in abundance, and are scattered across the United States. I am happy to have finally found you, at peace, in this lovely place Fondly, Your 6th Great Granddaughter, from Au Sable Forks, New York, in the extreme Northern part of the Adirondack Mountains Sleep in Peace " ...Not as happily, this researcher could not replicate, confirm, or specifically locate any woman matching criteria already established with additional information qualifying 'Nurse' reference. That said, there should not be confused identity with "Elizabeth Nourse/Nurse" daughter of Benjamin Nurse and Elizabeth Roberts who married "JOSEPH DABY" who is frequently identified as the son of JOHN DABY and first wife: HANNAH BUTTERICK, or See also: https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Nourse-14 Joachim Hawn
(NOTE: follow-up to above....A review of all administrative actions connected to the FamilySearch Family Tree PID Profile for William Holden, concurs with the aforestated conclusion. Jlphawn) ALSO see new Source record documents for Darby/Darbe/Derby/Daby marriage.

Related subject:
I found these as 'Noted' entries in a Profile for William Holden and by extension to: Elizabeth MNU. HOWEVER What they (together) produce substantiation for is: Joseph Darby, son of John Darby and Hannah Butterick, became the husband of a woman named: Elizabeth Nourse/Nurse. That then determines two facts:
1.) It should open a pathway for establishing descendant lineages, and
2.) Simultaneously, it excludes candidacy for any considerations of alleged identifications claiming Elizabeth MNU, relict of William Holden was aka Elizabeth Nurse/Nourse. That, in turn, undermines mistaken or intentional DAR claimant listing petition or approval that Elizabeth Nurse was the relict of John Darby (she was in fact, a daughter-in-law but with no connection whatsoever to: Elizabeth MNU...) Confused identifications between the two women need to be removed from any and all equations leading to a claim of lineage
Again, whoever Elizabeth Nurse was (or was not) there just is no relative connection between her and Elizabeth MNU Holden, who married John Darby. That being the case, DAR claims resting upon this line progenitor as 'Elizabeth' relict of William Holden, need to be re-examined.

The following identifies a FamilySearch Pedigree Resource File—often referenced and attributed as a ‘Source’ value for the creation of new Profiles, or as support for otherwise contested or questioned biological determinations. In either scenario, the competency of research query and outcome are absolutely necessary, as they perform a critical linkage between all parties involved. In the case of the following example Pedigree Resource File, the problem though perhaps not immediately obvious nonetheless presents an irreconcilable conflict on all levels for 'any genealogical fact sheet' organizing its logic according to this Files data: (Here - a daughter of Thomas Darby and Mary Brown, married William Holden. That's a problem, you might even call it a HUGE problem, because this Elizabeth Darby Holden is conversely identified as: 'Elizabeth Holden, relict of William Holden who later married: John Darby'. The issue being this: Thomas Darby and Mary Browne were also the parents of John Darby. That would suggest a latent marriage of a biological sister and brother. That's a problem.

Lawrence-7283 and Mnu-466 appear to represent the same person because: No sources for LNAB of Lawrence. Best to merge into Mnu-466. That profile discusses the possibility of Lawrence so that is sufficient. Same find a grave on both profiles.
