A son of Henry and Emma (Creager) Moats, William Daniel Moats was known affectionately as Dee. He worked variously in a machine shop and as a bricklayer. He remained a bachelor all his life and is found with his parents in the 1900 through 1940 census, living in Quincy Township. Fairview, where Dee was born and died, is located within the township.[1][2][3][4] Dee was musically gifted and played the violin, mandolyn, and piano; but he was most fond of the violin.
