John Anderson Moffett, son of [Moffett-390|Jesse Moffett]] and Elizabeth Bailey, was born March 24, 1798 in Fauquier County, Virginia. He married Elizabeth Frances Hitt on November 21, 1820 in Fauquier County, Virginia[1]. After Elizabeth died he married Martha Ann Ryan on June 15, 1839 in Fauquier County, Virginia[2][3]. John died June 10, 1890 in Fauquier County, Virginia and was buried in Moffett Family Cemetery, Marshall, Fauquier, Virginia[4].

I, John A Moffett, of the county of Fauquier and state of Virginia, do make, publish and declare this to be my last will and testament, by revoking all former wills heretofore made by me. First, I direct that my executor hereafter named, will pay off all my just debts and funeral expenses and the remainder of my estate both real and personal property I will and bequeath to my beloved wife Martha Ann Moffett to her during her natural life for her use and for the support of the two youngest children Ann C and Martha A Moffett, but in the event of my said wife marrying again. I will that in such event, that only one third of my said estate be allotted off to her during her natural life and the remainder two thirds to be divided amongst my several children hereafter named in case of my said wife marrying again. Should she not marry the property is to remain in her possession until her death and then to be equally divided amongst my children by charging them on settlement of any bonds that may be due to me by any of my said children at my death. Second I will that all of my estate to be equally divided amongst my twelve children as follows: Anderson F Moffett, Lucinda Bayley, James H Moffett, Elizabeth Burgess, John T Moffett, Mary Laurence, Jesse Moffett, Robert F Moffett, Daniel J Moffett, Lavega Moffett, Ann C Moffett, and and Martha A Moffett, but it is my wish that the portion of my estate here bequeathed to my son Jesse Moffett shall be held by my executor in trust to be applied by him to the support of my said son and his wife and children and not to be liable for his debts or contracts an only to be applied to the object aforesaid. I also direct that the portion of my estate hereby bequeathed to my daughter Lucinda Bayley shall be held by my executor in trust to be applied by him to the support of my said daughter and not to be liable in any way for her husbands debts and at the death of either of my said children, where legacies are here directed to be held in trust I direct that whatever may remain of such child's portion shall be equally divided among his or her children but my executor is not hereby restricted to the application of the profits of each ones share if in his direction the wants of either of my children should require the principal to be used. Lastly, I constitute and appoint LaVega Moffett executor of this my last will and testament. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this 1st day of May 1875. A paper writing dated 1st May 1875 purporting to be the last will and testament of John A Moffett dec'd was this day presented to the court for probate and Charles M Holtzclaw, one of the attesting witnesses to the same being duly sworn deposed and says that he and Basil Gaines Jr the other attesting witness were together at the same time in the presence of the testator who then and there together with said witnesses signed said paper writing and that testator acknowledged the same as his last will and testament and same is ordered to be recorded as and for the true last will and testament of John A Moffett, dec'd.
