William was born in 1740. He passed away 1797. He was an immigrant from Donegal, Ireland before 1763, to NC, and was not born a Quaker. But Mary Davis, whom he might have met in Philadelphia before coming into NC, was born a Quaker to Charles Davis, originally from London, England and wife Hannah Matson, who was from Philadelphia, Chester Co, Pennsylvania. William J. Moffitt, immigrant, married Mary Davis in the Cane Creek Meeting House (Orange Co then, Alamance Co, NC now) on Apr 2, 1763; he was listed as age 23, she as 22 years old at the time.
Several of William's brothers came into NC as well, including a Hugh Moffitt who also married a Davis, sister of Mary Davis mentioned above; Adam Moffett born c1738, Donegal; and a Charles Moffitt born 1743, Donegal, Ulster, Ireland.
