MOHLER - Emanuel M., son of Samuel M. and Sally (Miller) Mohler, was born on November 21, 1878, near Covington, Ohio, on the farm where he grew to manhood. He was the youngest and last surviving member of a family of 11 children.
He united with the Old German Baptist Brethren Church at the age of 16 years, and spent his entire life in the Covington Church district. On December 25, 1898, he was united in holy wedlock with Palmyra Frances Bowman by Elder Wm. Shoup. This union was blessed with 4 children: 3 daughters and 1 son. They spent the greater part of their married life in the vocation of farming in the vicinity of Covington, Ohio. He also operated a grain threshing machine for a number of years. He loved to work, to be engaged in gainful labor, both for the welfare of his family and for those about him. Possessed of a ready wit, he enjoyed life and the companionship of his many friends and neighbors. Especially did he enjoy going to Church services, and always greatly appreciated having his family around him in his home. His companion was called to the Great Beyond on April 7, 1949, after spending a wedded life together for a period of over fifty years.
He was again united in marriage with Cassie Wray Purdue on September 2, 1952. This made it possible for him to maintain his home and to enjoy life for a number of years longer. On September 16, 1963, he suffered a light paralytic stroke, at which time he followed the apostolic injunction and was anointed with oil, from which he received much comfort. Because of failing health he entered the Dettmer Hospital on April 14, 1968, where he spent several months and was later taken to a Nursing Home. The last few weeks he seemed to fail quite rapidly after contracting a deep chest cold, and passed on to his eternal reward in the afternoon of March 1, 1970, at the North Wayne Manor in Piqua, Ohio, after attaining the ripe old age of 91 years, 3 months, and 8 days.
Among those who survive are his faithful companion, who done so much to make life enjoyable for him in his declining years; the children, Mabel Schaurer, Elsie Fisher, Alice Denlinger, and Roy; 1 stepdaughter, Elizabeth Renicker; 8 grandchildren; 2 step-grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; 6 foster-great-grandchildren; 3 step-great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; 1 sister-in-law, Susie Bowman; a large number of nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends. We trust our loss in his eternal gain.
Funeral services were conducted in the afternoon of March 4th at the Routzahn Funeral Home in Covington, by Elder Carl Bowman, who read the 23rd Psalm. Also at the Covington meeting house by Elder Willard Yoder, assisted by Elders Wm. Miller and Lester Flory, Psalm 91 was read and text taken from 2 Timothy 4:6-8. Hymns used were 393, 443, and 403. Burial in Sugar Grove Cemetery.
