MOHLER - Brother Samuel M. Mohler, son of Elder Rudolph and Elizabeth Mohler was born March 27, 1837. He departed this life July 20, 1920 at the age of 83 years, 3 months and 23 days. He was the 9th of a family of 13 children. He lived to be the oldest and last one of the family to depart. At the age of 5 years his parents moved from Lancaster County, Pennsylvania to Miami County, Ohio on a farm south of Covington, near Sugar Grove church, where he grew to manhood. On the 29th of December 1861 he was united in marriage to Sally Miller. To this union were born 11 children (7 sons and 4 daughters) also 23 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. In October 1855 he united with the Old German Baptist church, and in the year 1874 he was elected to the office of deacon and remained faithful until death. In May 1913 he lost his vision (became entirely blind). He suffered very much but bore it very patiently during the 7 years, often expressing a desire to be absent from the body and be present with the Lord. Also during this time he was anointed at different times. July 2, 1920 he fell causing a fractured hip which caused him much pain and severe suffering; until a few days before he died he seemingly slept into eternity. He leaves to mourn his departure, 3 sons, 3 daughters, 19 grandchildren, and 9 great grandchildren and a host of relatives and many friends. While the family has lost a kind and affectionate father, the church a faithful member yet we sorrow not as those who have no hope, for we feel and believe that our loss is his eternal gain. Funeral on July 23rd in the home church conducted by Elders P. D. Bowman, Samuel Leedy and Paul Custer. Their text will be found in the first 9 verses of the fourth chapter of II Timothy, to a large concourse of sympathizing members and friends. Interment in the Sugar Grove cemetery.
