Magdaline was born in 1801. She is the daughter of John Mohler and his wife Magdaline (or Magdalena) Rinehart. [1] Magdaline married Martin Miller Garber in 1816. [2] They were the parents of fourteen children. The eldest seven were born in Virginia. In about 1830 the couple moved to Ohio where seven more children were born. In 1850 the family is enumerated on the federal census in Shelby County, Ohio. [3] Following the death of her husband in 1851, Magdaline and all of her children moved to Elkport, Clayton County, Iowa. [4] In 1870, she is enumerated on the federal census in the home of her daughter and son-in-law Mary and Daniel Mohr. [5]
