Los Angeles: Iris Molaizon Trouillier, a retired Catholic school principal of St. Paul School, passed away surrounded by her loving family. She was 80. Iris was born on December 12, 1936, the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe, in New Orleans, daughter of Albert and Venita Molaizon. She is the granddaughter of the influential jazz drummer, Louis Cottrell, Sr. and his son, Louis Cottrell, Jr., the famous Dixieland clarinetist, is her uncle.
Iris attended Corpus Christi Catholic Elementary School, and lived on the same street as her future husband, Lionel. She was a graduate of St. Mary's Academy and Xavier University where she earned her teaching credential. She was known for her sense of humor and practical jokes. In 1963 the fetching beauty fell in love and married Lionel Trouillier, Jr. in New Orleans and they moved to Los Angeles where they embarked upon a lifelong adventure together. In the 1970s Iris entered the workforce and was an occasional substitute teacher at the school where her children were enrolled, Good Shepherd Lutheran School in Inglewood. In the 1980s she took a teaching position at St. Paul School in Los Angeles. Soon thereafter she was chosen to lead the school as principal, albeit reluctantly at first. She threw herself into the challenge. She became an influential figure amongst her colleagues and the student body and she took satisfaction in instilling Christian values in her students. The district heaped accolades on her for her savvy and efficient administration. For recreation she enjoyed trips to Las Vegas with family where she would avail herself of the gambling diversions and partake of the buffets. When her first grandchild was born she retired from education and assumed the role which she loved best: that of nanny, or "Amo". to her grandchildren. A highlight of the Holiday season was her Creole gumbo which was a tradition on Christmas Eve. She especially enjoyed the annual holiday visit of her baby sister, Abbie. In 2014 she was diagnosed with rare gall bladder cancer. Iris--a strong and a fierce fighter--would eventually succumb to complications brought on from the cancer. Iris will be missed by everyone who loved her. Survivors include her adoring husband, Lionel J. Trouillier Jr; a son and a daughter, Lionel III and Angele Masino; a sister, Abble Fazande; two beautiful grandchildren Charles and Irisa Masino; and a son-in-law Chuck Masino. Her favorite song was Schubert's "Ave Maria":
