Mom has never been on an airplane… if you could not get there by car or train…she was not interested in going.
Norah was a stay at home mom until the Coca Cola strike in 1955. With dad out of work, she went to work at the Montreal General Hospital as an elevator operator. They bought their first home in 1990 in Chateauguay, Quebec, and she retired there, after 32 years of service.
She became a full time care giver when Dad was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. They celebrated there 65th anniversary on September 26th, 2015 in Ontario with their son and his family.
Norah had a love of country music and Poodles, and owned many poodles all with the same name; Marty Robbins… except the last one who was named Paddy after her brother Patrick. Paddy is now 13 years old and almost blind… he only sees shadows and is living in Ontario with her son.
Norah was diagnosed with terminal cancer on December18, 2013.
She is pre-deceased by her parents: William Monaghan and Sarah Jane Winstanley, and her brothers and sister: William, Patrick , Eileen (Viva),
Her only daughter died in 1972, Sandra Norah Young was a victim of the Blue Bird Club fire, in downtown Montreal.
Norah is survived by her husband, Walter Francis Young, her son William Francis Young (Mary Jane). She is a proud grandmother to Nadine Coffey (Kevin) and Derek Young (Sarah). She is a great grandmother to Ava and Kaleb Coffey.
All of her immediate family live in Ontario. Norah has numerous nieces and nephews still living in Nova Scotia, Sault Ste Marie, and Florida. Norah never missed celebrating a family event..
Norah thanks the amazing staff of the Anna Laberge hospital, the support team at Residence D’Youville and a very special Thank You to her best friend Beverley Labbe (John), who took her to all of her cancer appointments, took her shopping and was the best friend that a friend could ever have.
Norah was cremated at the Alexandre Nichol Funeral Home in Chateauguay, on June 30, and a celebration of life will be held at the Notre-Dame-des-Neiges Cemetery on July 13, at 11am. After the service Norah will rest at the Notre-Dame-des-Neiges Cemetery with her daughter, Sandra.
In lieu of flowers Norah asks that you perform an unexpected and unsolicited act of kindness for someone in need and mention her by name.
