Lucy was born in 1800, in Virginia. She was the daughter of Joseph Monroe and his first wife Elizabeth Carr/Kerr. She was a niece of President James Monroe. She married Pleasant Browder, in Chariton, Missouri. They had 2 known children.
After her husband died in 1831, she and her sons moved, in 1845, to Dallas, Texas. The land she settled on was known as "Browder's Springs" and was the first public water supply for the town. The springs were named for Lucy[1][2]. In 1865 she conveyed the 60 acres containing Browder Springs to her son Edward.
It is here she passed away in 1873. She is buried at the Pioneer Cemetery.
