Lauchlin was born in 1847. He is the son of John Monroe and Mary Deaton.

There are questions regarding Lauchlin's middle name... A. or Bethune? He used A. more often. The Monroe Family Bible records A. as does his Findagrave record. His death record lists both A and Bethune.
