Biography

John was born the son of George Washington Monroe and Sarah A (Smith) Monroe in 25 Nov 1845 in Fayette, Ohio where he lived with his family until 1870. [1][2][3] In 1870 John (age 24) removed to Haddon, Sullivan, Indiana with his family.[4][5][6]

John was a farmer in Haddon, Sullivan, Indiana, unmarried and became head of the family in 1899 after his faher's death. He lived with his brothers Joseph and Richard who also never married, on the family farm until his death on 8 Mar 1923.[1][7][8][9]
