Native Kentuckian (born in Kentucky, married in Harrison County)
John Monson was born about 1803 (estimate). He may have been the son of Isaac Moss Monson and Nancy (Webb) Monson [see#Research Notes].
John posted bond with Elijah Whaley and obtained a license to marry Eveline Whaley on 15 Dec 1823 in Harrison County, Kentucky.[1][2] They were married 18 Dec 1823 by Charles Webb, ME. Her name on the bond and the license was listed as Evalina Whaley; her name on the minister's return was listed as Everline Whalely.[3]
John and Eveline have not been located in census records in Harrison County, Kentucky, but they are listed on the death record of their son Elijah Whaley Monson.[4]
Research Notes
Notes on the FindaGrave memorial John's possible father, Isaac Moss Munson, indicate John moved to Iowa. The memorial lists possible sources for further research:
"Oldest Baptist Church West of the Alleghenies" from Spencer's History
Collins, and Perrin History.
General History of the Baptist Denomination in America by David Benedict A.M.
Kentucky-Elkhorn Association 1785 Indian Creek 1792 Isaac Monson, Davis Biggs, 72 members, 8 ministers held at Great Crossing Scott Co., KY., Aug. 1811 Sermon by Davis Biggs. From "History of Kentucky Baptists" page 206 by J. H. Spencer states: Isaac Munson was a preacher in this church about sixty years.
Whether these will have any genealogical information on John and Eveline to support the memorial's family information is questionable.[5] No Iowa records have yet been found that can be tied definitively to them.
