Peter was born in Orange County, Virginia in 1732. Peter enlisted with the "Virginia Line", during the Revolutionary War, in February 1777 in the 2nd Virginia Regiment.[1] After his enlistment ran out, Peter reenlisted as a substitute and served during the war.[2] His Revolutionary War Pension indicates that he had 3 years of actual service. Some of that time was served under Capt. Alexander Parker.[3] Other documentation indicates he was at some point under Major William Moore.[4] In 1795 Peter transferred 94 acres to his son, Andrew Montague. Peter died in 1820 at the home of his son John in Orange County, Virginia.[2]
