Alexis was born in 1852. He was the son of John Montgomery and Cynthia Ramseur. He passed away in 1908.

Hundreds Crowd to Funeral

Flora Display Imposing

The funeral Alexis R. Montgomery was held at 3 o'clock Thursday afternoon from the First Presbyterian Church. The services were conducted by the Paster, Rev. W. R. Penhallegon. The music was furnished by a quartet composed of Mrs. Walter G. Glenn, Mrs. Roy Essick, Carl G. Helby and Al Lindamood.

Tribute to Mr. Montgomery

It was the largest funeral held in Decatur in a long time. The church was crowded and many stood outside. Friends were there from all parts of the city.

Dr. Penhallegon paid a beautiful tribute to the life of Mr. Montgomery.

Never was a greater profusion of beautiful floral tributes seen at a funeral in Decatur. The platform was almost completely covered with them. It was impossible to take care of all of them and after the services many of them were sent to the hospital.

Pallbearers

The active pall bearers had all been connected with Mr. Montgomery in a business way. There were H. C. Dempsey, T. B. Ewing, John Hoehn, James Stocks, Max Hard, Rick Fitzpatrick. The honorary pallbearers were, O. B. Gorin, D. A. Moffit, Adolph Mueller, C. M. Hurst, Smith Walker, W. R. Scruggs. All personal friends of Mr. Montgomery.

The interment was in Greenwood Cemetery.
