Margaret was born about 1827.
Her genealogical lineage traces through several titled Scottish families (Graham, Irving/Irvine, Rollo, Balfour, Douglas, Frame) [1].
A genetic dna match has been verified between one of Margaret's descendants and a descendant of her maternal uncle Peter Graham.
It's worth noting how Margaret kept her matrilineal names alive by naming one of her daughters after her grandmother Janet Smith and one of her daughters after her mother Margaret Irving Graham, who in turn had been named after her grandmother Margaret Irving.
Margaret married John Scaife on 29 January 1849 in Dumfries, Scotland. Another record indicates the marriage was initially recorded at Gretna Hall on the 19 September 1848. The text reads: "Scaife Jn of Dumfries. Montgomery Mgt. Irving Graham of Irongray, Kct. 19 Sep 1848."
Records show John and Margaret had nine children born between 1849 and 1865. Three of their children were born in Dumfries-shire (Margaret 1849, John 1857 and Isaac 1859), three in the Liverpool area (Janet 1852, James 1854 and Sarah 1855) and three in the Manchester area (Charles 1861, William 1863 and Monteith 1865).
Her son James passed away in 1866, age 12 and her son Charles in 1868, age 7. Margaret passed away in 1869 (age about 42), the same year as her young son Monteith (age 3).
