Biography

John Alexander Montgomery was born on November 29, 1896 in Pontotoc County, Mississippi.[1] He was the son of Thomas Montgomery and Martha A Little. He had a 6th grade Education.[2]

He registered for the WWI Draft in 1918 in Pontotoc, Pontotoc County, Mississippi, giving discription as born Nov 19, 1896 in Pontotoc, Mississippi, Medium height and weight, with Black hair and brown eyes.[3] He served in the War as a Private, in Co., H, Group 2 Rpl Tr Ctr Pike Arkansas. Enlisting on September 4, 1918, Discharged Febuary 1, 1919.[4]

He was married three times. He married Lela 'Eron' McCoy (1902-1939)[1] Children.

John was a Farmer. He and Eron lived in on their farm in Pontotoc County, Mississippi, in 1930, with their children, Aubry-8, Reberta-6, and David-1.[5]He was living next door to his brother, Lawrence Montgomery, in Rual Pontotoc County.

His wife Lela Eron passed away on January 11, 1939, in Pontotoc, Mississippi, at the age of 36. They had been married 19 years.

He married Lester "Lestie" E Watts(1912-) in about 1940. He and Lestie were on a Rented farm in Monroe, County, Arkansas in 1940, where he was working as a farm Labor. They had his 5 children in the home.[2]

His wife Lester passed away in September 1978 in Etta, Mississippi, at the age of 66. They had been married 38 years.

He is thought to have married Hester E McCarty also.

He died on November 17, 1979, at the age of 82, in Pontotoc County, Mississippi, and was buried in the Jernigan Family Cemetery. [1]
