Biography

Marion was born in Scotland in 1837 in Southend, Argyll and Bute, Scotland, the daughter of James Montgomery and Jane Caldwell [1]

She immigrated to America with her family and settled in Winnebago, Illinois. [2]

In 1861 she married Robert Greenlees in Illinois [3]

She died in 1911.

LIVED IN SAME HOME 68 YEARS Mrs. Marion Greenlee To Be Buried From Old Homestead Today

The funeral of Mrs. Marion Greenlee who died at her home south of Argyle early Thursday morning, will be held from the homestead at 2 o'clock this afternoon, Rev. M. L. Pearson of the Argyle Presbyterian church to officiate. Interment will be in the family lot in the Argyle cemetery.

Deceased was born in Argyleshire, Scotland, April 21, 1838 [April 27, 1937], and came to this country in 1842 on the sailing ship the "Gleaner" with her father.

Her marriage to Robert Greenlee, who died in 1874, occurred in March 1861. Two sons and one daughter survive. They are J.C., who lives on the homestead which was his mother's home for 68 years for all of her residence in this country, Robert of Winnebago, and Mrs. Peter Greenlee of Argyle.

Her maiden name was Marion Montgomery. Mrs. James Smith, of Rockford, is a sister, and James Montgomery of Poplar Grove a brother. Mrs. Mary Greenlee of Charles City, Iowa, is a sister. Mrs. Greenlee was a member of the Presbyterian church, and a firm believer in its precepts and teachings.
