DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Adam by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA.
Y-chromosome DNA test-takers in his direct paternal line on WikiTree:
Montgomerie-511 and Montgomery-401 appear to represent the same person because: This is a duplicate of the well documented Montgomery-401 and apparently the creator also duplicated his parents which also need careful merging in order to ensure the WikiTree source citation process is followed.
So I just checked and you and I manage this profile and his respective spouse - I proposed nearly a dozen duplicated merges that only had Wikipedia direct paste data even with their footnote numbers and no sources and instead of accepting merges our profiles have been removed as the parents of their children and the new duplicates placed instead- No one asked me and it was the same person who changed them so I'm posting here so that you'll see it and my private messages about it can't be denied. This doesn't seem like proper etiquette nor form. I had a learning curve on here when I started and continue to learn - as I mentioned in my original post here- However, if you gave the okay to clear the children from your Notable profile then let me know so I can let part of it go... Thanks! Becky
I am trying as fast as I can to catch up with the duplicates that were created and address the merges to the properly cited earlier profiles of this Montgomery line. I finished merging sources and biography for his son and now see that he is no longer linked to this man his father! I just proposed the merge of the duplicate Adam Vith of Braidstane created as Montgomerie-511. No blame to you at all. We can fix this.
Becky, somehow you got removed as manager of the profile during the merge process. If you send me your email address I will add you back on. I am determined to sort out the accidental creation of multiple profiles. We absolutely want all these Montgomerys and their sposes that we descend from to have the WikiTree-approved inline citations using sources approved for Pre 1700 Scottish profiles.
No problem- I only use my phone right now for online work and can't always initiate a private conversation- apparently it is a random glitch that started sometime last year. I will try sending you one with my info but if it doesn't work, please send one to me (Simmons-11603) and I will get right back to you.
P. S. I realize the issues and do not feel you placed blame nor responsibility on me as I was simply "the messenger" who caught the uploads by a chance random gedcompare refresh. I will send the rest in the email :)
Cheers! Becky
I'm confused a bit- the sources all appear to be listed as footnotes or (please don't take offense) but maybe pasted from someone else's work because there are no inline citations, let alone could there be enough for the numbering to be in the hundreds. (The style resembles a Wikipedia article but I am not accusing as it could be your article and simply not cited)
I'm honestly trying to help get our familys' profiles together and thought checking all of our various sources would not only help educate me further on our ancestors' lives but also to understand why they weren't discovered as matches in the upload process and thusly how to propose it be fixed so it doesn't continue:)
P. S. - Just a note from when I created my first profile where someone commented about an excerpt I copied and pasted- I thought using quotation marks and adding the paper's title and author's name was enough to give credit but I got a thorough and proper lesson in citations and also learned about the style and edit guideline pages. I'm sure things have changed a bit sine then but it used to suggest no more than 3-4 sentences were directly copied and no matter how much is copied, everything should give credit to the proper source with punctuation and citation.
Thank you for allowing my post as it may be someone else wrote the bio above and my note could be irrelevant for this page but it could possibly help someone else who is new to working with one shared tree versus everyone having their own personal trees and pages (e.g. Ancestry. Co)
I'm happy to collaborate if you have time to send an email or reply to the one I sent :)
Hello- I just adopted the orphaned profile for Adam's wife, Margaret and am doing some quick preliminary sourcing to finish this recent GEDCOM comparison and plan on revisiting it this month. If I find sources pertinent to both profiles would you prefer I post them here, add to the end of the current list of sources or send in a message/email? No bid deal, I just prefer open communication in situations where we could work together to better our work as opposed to keeping everything separate.
Cheers! Becky Elizabeth

Okay well I did add the Findagrave and such to bottom of page but wanted to include link to FamilySearch profile:
I would love to work together! I am working on getting Pre-1500 Certified and Adam's profile is one they want me to improve. I got guidance from the Scotland Project and added the Family Search secondary source as they directed. They like Find A Grave and Family Search showing under the See also heading. Per their guidance I deleted the Burke's sources as they are unreliable. I am now looking to see Adam is in Cockayne's Peerage, which they approve as a reliable source. If you find something from the https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:Scotland_-_Reliable_Sources list go ahead and add it. Otherwise, please email me or post it here.
