Paternal relationship is confirmed through Y-chromosome DNA testing. Lyle Montgomery, FTDNA kit #998132, and his 5th cousin once removed, Randall Montgomery, FTDNA kit #979180, match at a Genetic Distance of 2 on 676 markers thereby confirming their direct paternal lines back to their MRCA Robert Montgomery 1717-1789. FTDNA indicates that the probability the two share a common ancestor born between 1600 and 1900 is 95% and the most likely year is rounded to 1750. They share the common SNP R-BY194967.
