John Jones Montgomery was born May 22, 1826, in Pulaski county, Missouri, the son of William Montgomery and Nancy (Ballew) Montgomery, originally from North Carolina.
John inherited the homestead on the Little Niangua, near the north line of the county. [1] The place were they lived was organized in 1842, first as Niangua County and then renamed in 1844 for George M. Dallas, who served as Vice President under James K. Polk.
John married Julia W. Clark, born December 1836, in Indiana, daughter of George Clark and Nancy (King) Clark. [2] Julia died June 30, 1903 and was buried in the Hermitage Cemetery, in Hermitage, Hickory County, Missouri. John died December 2, 1911 and is buried with her. [3] John and Julia share a dual headstone, which may be seen on his Find A Grave memorial.
