James was born in 1796 in Scotland. He was the son of Robert Montgomery. [1]

He married Jane Caldwell in Scotland in 1826 in Scotland.[2]

James came to the US from Kyntrye Scotland in 1842 on the Gleaner

They immigrated to the US in 1842 on the Gleaner. [3] [4][5]

They were one of the earliest residents of the Scottish settlement in Argyle, Illinois. [6]

James was an early resident of the Scottish Immigrant Settlement in Argyle, Illinois

They farmed in Guilford, Winnebago County.

He passed away in 1874. He is buried with his family at the Scottish Cemetery in Caledonia, Illinois.
