Biography

Pvt John Moody served in the United States Civil War.
Enlisted: Mar 25, 1862

Regiment(s): Company B, US Infantry

Military Service: He joined the army during the Civil War in Edwards County, Illinois on March 25, 1862 for a period of 3 years and served as a Private in Illinois Unit 63, Company B, US Infantry, from April 10, 1862 until he was discharged for disability on November 7, 1862.

John's parents died, and left him an orphan at the age of four years and he was raised by an aunt. He tried to enlist again in Albion, Illinois to the 38th Illinois Infantry on January 25, 1864 but was rejected. Upon his return from the service, he followed the pursuit of farming in Edwards County, Illinois, until he moved to Albion and retired. John's home in Albion on West Main Street was the birthplace and early home of Former Governor L.L. Emmerson and is currently the side of the Edwards County Historical Society.
