William Moody was born February 16, 1756, the son of Enoch Moody and Ann Weeks, in Falmouth, Cumberland County, Massachusetts (present-day Portland, Maine).[1][2][3]
Private William Moody served with Colonel Mitchell's Regiment, Massachusetts Line during the American Revolution.
William served in several companies during the Revolutionary War. He kept a record while serving in Colonel Mitchell's regiment, which is transcribed at the source.[1]
1775: Colonel Edmund Phinney's 31st regiment in Cambridge[1]
July 5, 1776-1778: drummer in Captain Abner Lowell's Matross company at Falmouth Neck[1][3]
July 1779: Captain Peter Warren's company to Penobscot on sloop Centurion
1780: Captain Joseph Pride's company in Colonel Joseph Prime's regiment at Falmouth Neck[1]
He also served as drummer in Captain Peter Warren's company.[1]
In 1783, William married Mary Young and had three children: Enoch, William, and Nancy. In 1804, he married Rachel Riggs, and they had a son, Edward.[1]
William died on February 16, 1821, and is buried at Eastern Cemetery in Portland, Maine.[1][2][3]
