NOTE: There is a small Bible in my possession that was

"Presented to
M[ary] Lillie Moomaw
By her Father July 26, 1880 [before her brother got sick].

[Inside the back cover are the following scriptural cites, written in what looks like Lillie's handwriting. I have copied the verses themselves from this version: 1880 American Bible Society, translated out of the original Greek and with the former translations diligently compared and revised. I wonder if they had special meaning for Lillie because of her brother's brief illness and death.]

Mark 16.16> "He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned."

Math 18.3> And said, Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven.'

James 5.14> Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord: v15> And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him.^^

[Inside front cover but scratched out with purple crayon are the words] 'To Marie [oldest daughter of Lillie's] from her Mother to keep.'
Inside the Bible are these words:
"In memory of G. S. Moomaw
who departed this life
10th October, 1880;
aged 27 yrs, 1 mon. 2 da
[in pencil below:]
So many worlds [?], so much to do
so little done, such things to be
Never knew I what had need of lay[?]
For thou wert strong as thou not I
"So, dearest, now thy brows are cold I
see there what thou art and know Thy
likeness to the wise below
For kindred with the great of old[.]
Know there is more than I can see
And[?] what I see I leave unsaid
Nor speak it knowing Death has made
"This[?] Darkness beautiful with thee."
