My father died when I was barely five and my mother soon remarried to Donald F. Brown. I was a curious child and began my genealogical quest asking my mother about her parents, her parents' parents, etc. Discussion or questions about my father and his family were taboo, so I queried my step-father about his family. Both parents drew on paper the beginnings of my family trees. I had a wonderful step-father and gladly maintain profile pages of him and his family as an honor to his memory.
My official journey began in 1991 when I connected with my father's family, whom I knew little about. I first found my grandmother, Ruth Bishop, and then aunts, uncles and cousins, all who helped me get started with my family tree. Over the years, I have looked relentlessly for people I am related to, connecting with many cousins and adopting many Moons, even those whom I am not related to, along the way.
On 1 January 2019, through DNA testing and loads of research, I found I am not a Moon but a Husbands. My grandmother Ruth and a man (most likely) named Clifford Axton Husbands created my father through a NPE. Clifford was not married at the time, but my grandmother was to Edmund Moon. Edmund and Ruth divorced shortly after my father was born. This has been a shocking revelation to me but I have taken it in stride and re-directed my research and tree. I am now including the Husbands, Axton, Slaters (other families I DNA match to) as part of my tree.
Life goes on and the journey continues...
