Biography

Margaret Patricia[1][2] Moore was born 1827[2]/1832[3].

She was the daughter of John Moore & Margaret Joyce (based on being the sister of Richard Moore). [1]

She resided with her brother Richard at Carrickfergus, County Antrim. [1]

In 1846, unmarried, she resided at High Street, Carrickfergus. [4]

In 1853 she emigrated from Ireland to Australia with her sister Mary Jane Moore (four years after the death of their father). [3]

She returned from Australia to Ireland, unmarried. [5]

She received a pension from the British Admiralty [because her father served in the Royal Navy]. [1]

Margaret died aged "65" [aged 70 if born 1832] at Clifden, County Galway, 1892. [2]

Research Notes

Residing in Carrickfergus in 1846 is suspicious because she would have been aged 12/17 at the time, so that may be a different woman.

I am trying to find information about Mary Jane and Margaret Moore. They emigrated to Australia on the James L Bogart arriving Port Phillip in April 1853. Shipping transcripts say MJ born around 1831; Margaret around 1832.

After going out to Australia with her sister, she later returned home to Ireland, single and as far as was known here, never married.

The records I have found say that Margaret Moore died in Melbourne, Australia, and that she married Henry John Burt, and had a daughter named Christina Emily Burt.

Hi Jordyn. That must be a different woman with the same name, because I've just added this woman's death record, proving that she died unmarried in Ireland.
