Biography

John was born @1795 in NC, probably Guilford, County, the son of William Moore and Elizabeth Widdows. Two known siblings (sister Frances and youngest brother, Widdows P Moore, were born there in 1805 and 1807.The History of Wayne County, IN notes that John Moore arrived in 1815 and helped to build some of the earliest homes there.

Beginning just after 1800, many Quaker families and others associated with them, began migrating to Montgomery County, OH and later to Wayne County IN. Among them were Andrew Hoover's extended family, and several sons of Esther Widdows (William Bulla - married to Andrew Hoover's dau. Elizabeth and Thomas III Bulla, whose in-laws had also recently migrated)

Esther herself migrated to Wayne County, IN after her husband's death in 1809. It is plausible, although unsubstantiated, that Esther Widdows Bulla and her son Isaac even made the trip with her sister Elizabeth Widdows Moore's family.

Isaac Bulla and John Moore were half first cousins through their mothers. Elijah Wade m. Mary Brice Wade, Rebecca Wade's mother, in 1818. Several years later, John Moore married Rebecca Wade ... the stepdaughter of his half first cousin.

By 1830, the growing John Moore family is found in the Federal Census in Parke County, so any children born after 1830, were b. in Parke County. John Moore purchased land there in 1839 and again in1840. His wife, Rebecca Wade's uncle Aaron Wade was living in Parke County as well. In 1830, Rebecca's younger brother Thomas Wade was living with his sister's family. The 1850 Federal Census for District 85, Parke County, IN shows the John Moore Family: John Moore 55 b.@1795 NC Rebecca Moore b.@1805 PA (Moore children, all b. IN) James H 23 @1827, William 19 @1831, Gabriel 17 @1833, George 14 @ 1836, Anderson 11 @1839, John W 7@1843 William Moore 83 b. @1767 NC (John's widowed father)

Daughter Mary and her husband Perry Brown are living with his parents, Samuel and Mary Brown, also in District 85, Parke County in 1850, Daughter Elizabeth, also married, to Samuel Brown, Perry's brother, lives nearby as well.

Son John W, in other census records is John W P Moore, and Widdus or Widus Moore. I believe he was named for his father's youngest brother Widdows P Moore.
