  • 1870 U. S. Census: Samuel, 3, lived in District of Columbia with parents Robert A. Moore, 41, and Anna J., 37. Also present were Anna's mother, Melinda Oliver, 68, Oliver B. Brown, 11, and William Scidmore, 22. Robert and William were streetcar drivers. Oliver was "at school". Robert was born in Pennsylvania, Anna in South Carolina, Samuel in Washington D.C., Melinda in Virginia, and Oliver and William were born in Washington D.C..[1]
  • 1880 U. S. Census: Samuel, 13, lived in District of Columbia with parents Robert, 56, and Annie, 51, and brother, George, 7. Robert's occupation was car driver, Annie kept house, and Samuel attended school. Robert was born in Pennsylvania, as were his parents. Annie was born in North Carolina (previous census says South Carolina), father born in Delaware, mother born in Virginia. Samuel was born in District of Columbia, and George was born in New York. However both sons have mother born in Delaware. [2]
  • 1891 District of Columbia Marriages, 1830-1921: Samuel Moore, 23, married Mary Georgie Shreve, 19, on June 10, 1891 in the District of Columbia.[3]
  • 1893 Birth of daughter on October 2, 1893, born at home at 1219 11th Street, Spokane, Washington, alive and legitimate. Parents were Georgia M. Shreve, age 22, born in Virginia, and Samuel Moore, age 26. Recorded as second child born to this mother. Samuel's occupation listed as Clerk, place of birth Washington D.C. [4][5]NOTE: No name given for infant, deceased prior to 1900 census, no death record found.
  • 1900 U.S. Census: Samuel Moore, age 33, born September 1867, lived at 912 E. Clay Street, Richmond, Virginia, with wife Georgie, 29, born August 1871, and children Bessie, 8, born July 1892, and Helen R., 3, born January 1897, as boarders in the home of William F., 39, born June 1860, and Elizabeth Doyle, 33, born December 1866, sister of Georgie. William and Elizabeth had been married 6 years. Samuel and Georgie had been married 10 years. Elizabeth had no children. Georgie had 3 children, 2 still living. Wiliam and Elizabeth were born in Virginia, as were their parents. Samuel was born in the District of Columbia, as was his father (no, Pennsylvania); mother born in Virginia (no, either North or South Carolina). Georgie was born in Virginia, as were her parents. Bessie and Helen were born in Virginia. William's occupation was insurance, Samuel's was wall paper. Family could read and write, and spoke English. [6]
  • 1910 U.S. Census: Samuel, 42, lived in Baltimore, Maryland, with wife Mary G., 37, as lodgers in the home of William B. and Nettie Larrah. Samuel and Mary had been married 18 years. Samuel was a clerk in the post office. Their children Mary E., 16, and Helen R., 13, were living in District of Columbia with their Uncle William F., and Aunt Elizabeth Shreve Doyle.[7]
  • 1912 Birth of fourth child, Jacquelin Epps Moore, on December 12, 1912, in Ballston. Arlington, Alexander County, Virginia. Parents were Samuel Moore, born in Washington D.C., and Mary G. Shreve, born in Virginia. Jacquelin died at the age of eight days old of spina bifida, meningomyelocele, and acute myelitis[8][9] NOTE: Just eleven days after the death of their baby, daughter, Elizabeth, gave birth to their first grandchild, my father, George L. Cox.
  • 1920 U. S. Census: Samuel, 53, lived in District of Columbia with wife Mary G., 48, and lodger, Mary C. Cox, 28, possibly Mary Cynthia, sister of Henry Aubrey Cox, son-in-law. Samuel was a clerk in the city post office, Mary G. and Mary C. were government clerks.[10]
  • 1930 U.S. Census: Samuel, age 62, lived in District of Columbia with his wife, Mary G., age 57. Also present were daughter Elizabeth, 37, and her husband Henry A., 41, and their children George L., 17, and Eleanor, 16. Also daughter Helen, 33, along with her husband Dr. Paul Richmond, 38, and their children Ruth, 9, Robert P., 7, and Carolyn, 1, born in Haiti. Both Samuel and Mary G. were government clerks, and son-in-law, Henry A. was an attorney for the U. S. Government, and son-in-law Dr. Paul Richmond was a Naval Officer, born in New Jersey. Samuel owned his home valued at $16,500, and he owned a radio set. Elizabeth, Ruth, Robert, George and Eleanor, all attended school. Family spoke, read and wrote English. Paul Richmond was a veteran of the World War.[11]
  • 1940 U. S. Census: Samuel, 72, lived at 4807 Iowa Ave, N.W., District of Columbia with wife Georgie M., 68, daughter Elizabeth M. Cox, 48, her husband Henry A. Cox, 51, and grand-daughter Eleanor, 25. Samuel was Head of Household, occupation none, had a 7th grade education. Henry A. Cox was lawyer for the Internal Revenue Service, had 5 years of college, Elizabeth Cox was a lawyer in private practice, had 4 years of college. Eleanor was a sculptor with her own studio, had 4 years of high school. The family lived in the same house in 1935.[12]
  • 1947 Death Record: Mary Georgia Shreve Moore died November 21, 1947, age 76, in District of Columbia and was buried in Fort Lincoln Cemetery, Brentwood, Prince George's County, Maryland. Find A Grave: Memorial #176720772 [13]
  • 1950 U.S. Census: Samuel Moore, age 82,widowed, lived at 4807 Iowa Ave., Washington, District of Columbia, with his sister-in-law, Elizabeth E. Doyle, 83, widowed. Samuel was born in Washington D.C., and Elizabeth was born in Virginia.They had lodgers Mary Fox, 50; Jeanette Kasselbaum, 72; Margaret Roberts, 24; Sarah M. Shepard, 48; and Irving G Thompson, 62.   • 1954 Samuel died on November 18, 1954, age 77. No death record found.
