John William Moore was born in 1896, to William R. Moore and Isabelle (McBride) Moore. Following his mother's death in 1902, John and his brother Lawrence were raised mainly by their grandparents.
John registered for the World War I draft in June of 1917; at the time of his registration, he was living in New Castle, Pennsylvania and working as a meat cutter. [1] John served with the 331st Regiment in France during World War I. He returned to the United States in March of 1919. Six weeks later, he died of pneumonia at his grandparents' home on State Street in New Castle, Pennsylvania. John was 23 years old. [2] He is buried with his mother and her siblings in Greenwood Cemetery, New Castle, Pennsylvania. [3]
