Albert Moore was born in June 1837, in Havant, Hampshire, England, the only son of James Moore and his wife Ann Knight, with his birth being registered in the 3rd Quarter at Havant,[1] and was baptised on the 10th September the same year, in St Faiths, Havant.[2]
On the 6th June 1841 4-year-old Albert was living with his family on South Street, Havant. Home at the time were his father, James, a builder by calling; his mother; Ann; and his mother's younger sister: Sarah Knight.[3] His older sister Elizabeth was staying with the Knight grandparents on Wade Court, Havant. Where his younger sister, Laura, was is not currently known.
The next decade was rather emotionally charged for the young Albert, with his mother, Ann, dying on the 4th April 1843, aged just 35 years;[4] his father bringing a stepmother, Julia, to the family on the 15th October 1846; and the births of not one, but two baby sisters: Julia Ann in 1849, and Mary Jane in late 1850.
On the 30th March 1851, the now 13-year-old Albert , a scholar, was living with his family on North Street, Havant. Others home at the time were his father, James, a Builder and Brickmaker employing 16 Men and 5 Boys; his stepmother, Julia; his sisters: the now 16-year-old Elizabeth, and 12-year-old Laura, also a scholar; his half-sisters: 2-year-old Julia Ann, and the new baby, Mary Jane; and 20-year-old Stoughton, Sussex-born housemaid, Jane Gibbens, and 16-year-old Warblington, Hampshire-born nursemaid, Elizabeth Newell.[5]
On the 7th April 1861, Albert — now 24 years old, and working towards Mastery in his Craft as a Stonemason's Journeyman — was lodging on South Street in the household of 65-year-old Havant-born George Palmer, a carter. Also resident in the Palmer household were Palmer's wife, Harriett, a laundress (also Havant-born); and fellow lodger, 75-year-old Havant-born George Dennett, formerly a butcher.[6]
Albert Moore passed away on the 3rd June 1862, in Havant, Hampshire, England, aged just 25 years.[7]
Albert was buried on the 9th June, in Havant (most likely St Faith's, as that appears to have been the family's church).[8]
