Biography

He was born before 1650 in County Antrim, Ireland.

James Moore first married on 03 Dec 1672 in Ballynacree, County Antrim, Ireland to Anne Caulfield.

James Moore married secondly on 01 Jul 1687 in County Antrim, Ireland to an Elizabeth (of unknown maiden surname).

He died about 1727 in Ballynacree, County Antrim, Ireland.

Excerpt

"The Moores in Scotland were sturdy, unyielding non-conformists, who under no circumstances would yield either to the cajolery or threats of King James; hence their removal to Ireland in Sixth Month, 1612, nine years after the union of the Scottish and English thrones by the accession of James I., and one year (1611) after the translation of the Bible now mostly used by Protestants, called "King James's Version".

It was seven years after the famous "Gunpowder Plot" was discovered, eight years before the "Pilgrim Fathers" located at Plymouth Rock (1620), twelve years before the birth of George Fox (1624), an( ^ thirty-six years before George Fox began his ministry in Manchester, England (1648).

The Friends in Ireland, as elsewhere, were cruelly persecuted until 1696, when by an Act of Parliament, Friends were relieved of many of the penalties that had been proscribed against them by law.

John Moore, an emigrant from Scotland, may have had a number of children. The only one amongst them of whom we have any accurate account, was a son James, who early joined the "Society of Friends". At his house in Ireland, Friends frequently held meetings.

The author regrets exceedingly that he has thus far been unable to get the records of these meetings; they seem to have been mislaid or destroyed." [1]

The only other mention of James in Passmore (1897:7) ...

"Andrew Moore, son of James and grandson of John Moore, who emigrated to Ireland from near Glasgow, Scotland, 6th mo., 1612, was born 6th mo. 1688 ..."

Research Notes

The birth date of "before 1650" is uncertain ...

"The Society's records only commence about 1650, and for some districts later than that ..." per Passmore (1897:3).

Presumably IF the district where James was born began its records in 1650, and IF James was born into the Society after 1650, he would have been listed in those records.

A source is needed to confirm who his parents were ...

- Elizabeth Neville (Doyle, 1620–1653) & James Moore, Sr. (1620–1701) ? OR
- Abigail (Pinney) & John Moore ? sources: ...

- "The Planters of the Commonwealth 1620-1640 Passengers and Ships" by Genealogical Pub. Co. Inc. of Batlimore, MD in 1972; call#974.w2p; p89;
John MOORE married on 16 June 1637 in Windsor, Hartford County, CT to Abigail PINNEY (b: 1618 in Dorchester, Dorset, England; d: aft.1677 Windsor, Hartford, CT), daughter of Humphrey PINNEY and Maria=Mary HULL.

James Moore, b: 7-4-1638; d: 4-9-1701 (son of Mary and James Moore) m: 1-7-1715 Sarah Guyon, b: 14-3-1648; d: 5-2-1699. They were members of the "Society of Friends" and were buried in County Antrim, Ireland.

The paternal ancestry of the above couple has been traced as far back as John Moore, b: 15 May 1588 Glasgow, Scotland; d: 01 Oct 1648; m: 19 Aug 1618 Mary Fenwick, b: 12 June 1590; d: 18 Apr 1658. John emigrated to Ireland in 1612 and he and his wife were buried in Antrim, County Antrim, Ireland. They belonged to the Society of Friends. [1]

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with James by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with James:
