Biography

Baptized: Jasper Moore was baptized at Shipton, Shropshire, 8 Aug 1613 Jasperus Moore filius Samuelis Moore de Larden Generosi(?) bap. "The baptism of his sister Mary reveals the name of their mother Catherine.[1]

Jasper's mother had been engaged in a long term affair with Jacob Blakeway, and it was determined that he was the father of her children. After the divorce of Samuel and Catherine, Samuel had custody of the children and put them into the care of John Carver and Robert Cushman to transport them to Virginia, maintain them for seven years and at the end of the term provide them with 50 acres of land.[2]

Sailed on the Mayflower 1620.: "Mr. John Carver; Kathrine, his wife; Desire Minter; & 2. man-servants, John Howland, Roger Wilder; William Latham, a boy ; & a maid servant, & a child yt was put to him, called Jasper More."[3]

Death: "Mr. Carver and his wife dyed the first year; he in ye spring, she in ye somer; also, his man Roger and ye litle boy Jasper dyed before either of them, of ye commone infection."[3] Prince reported his specific death from Bradford's 'pocket book" "December 6, dies Jasper, a boy of Mr. Carver's"[4]

He was buried ashore, probably in an unmarked grave, on the Cape in an area that is now Provincetown. Provincetown has memorial plaques with his name and that of four others from the Mayflower who died while the ship was at anchor in Cape Cod Harbor in November/December 1620.
