Jeanne died, and was buried in New Orleans on 9 June 1725.[3]
Joseph was listed on a census taken 1 January 1726 with a wife and three children, living in a house at Chapron's plantation on Rue de Conde in New Orleans.[2]
This is curious since his wife is known to have died just a few months before. Perhaps this was an error on the census.
The census taken the following year on 1 July 1727 showed Joseph and his three children, with no wife mentioned, living on Rue de Conde.[4]
Joseph died before September 1736, when a document regarding his succession was filed in New Orleans.[7]
Research Notes
Estimated birth.
An estimated birth of about 1665 at Saint-Malo, France, was given on a duplicate profile, without a source. The date and place on this profile isn't sourced either. More research is needed to verify his birth.
Civil Suit, Jan 1726.
Need to review two documents that seem to be related to a civil suit "Surgeon Major Pouyadon Delatour vs Moreau" regarding payment of a medical bill. The documents are in French, so it will take someone with knowledge of old French handwriting to review. Are both documents related to the same grievance? The typewritten extract for the second document is translated in English, and mentions Moreau was a locksmith, so this looks like it could be for him. Is there anything of genealogical value to be gleaned from these documents? They can be reviewed at lacolonialdocs.org:
So far, the following documents have been found regarding the succession of Joseph Moreau. They are in French, but have a summary translated in English that helps determine that these are for the correct person. The French documents need review:
A "Joseph Moreau, master Locksmith, resident of Arkansas" is listed as a witness to the marriage of Louis Drullion on 17 Jan 1725. Perhaps Arkansas is where his children were born.
