Jeanne Moreau was a French actress, singer, and director.

She was the daughter of Anatole-Désiré Moreau, who was manager of La Cloche d'Or, a restaurant. Her mother, Katherine Buckley, was English, from Lancashire. She was a former dancer at the Folies-Bergères.

Jeanne was married twice:

  • First to Jean-Louis Richard (born Jean Marius Richard). They were married from 1949 to 1951 and had a son, Jérôme
  • Second to American film director, producer and screewriter William Friedkin, from 1977 to 1979.

She received the César for Best Actress in 1992, the Cannes Festival award for Best Actress in 1960, and the BAFTA award for best actress in a foreign film in 1965.

Jeanne passed away in her Paris home on 31 July 2017.
