His marriage application to Eva Howard Kelsey is dated for 13 May 1953 in Skamanis County, Oregon. Ernest was age thirty-six an a resident of Beaverton. Eva was age thirty-two and a resident of Portland. As entered on his marriage to Eva, Ernest was employed as a sales clerk; The marriage application cited that he was divorced and was born in Grand Island, NE. (The 1940 census was probablly in error about his birthplace.
Ernest enlisted in the US Army in 1942 and was wounded in combat in 1945. He was awarded a Silver Star for his actions.
